One minute Navajo on August 14, 2012
Last month the Navajo Nation celebrated our great heroes, the Navajo Code Talkers. August 14th has been declared Code Talker Day by President Ronald Reagan. I am very impressed by our soldiers and very appreciative of their contribution in World War II.
Because of this I want to propose a way to show our appreciation next year when August 14 rolls around again.
What better way to show our appreciation than by actually speaking Navajo.
I want as many people as possible to willingly commit to speaking Navajo for 1 minute on August 14, 2012. This is a year out so there is plenty time to prepare. We could have done it this year, but there was no time to communicate to everyone about this idea.
One minute of your day is all. So speak to a friend, family member…etc. If all you can do is read out loud or if you have no one to speak to I suggest finding a way to speak. I thought maybe individuals could upload a YouTube video or even call my other blog to record for one minute.
I have created a Facebook event, so invite every Navajo you can, and make the one minute commitment… if you can commit to more time… do it. I’m thinking one minute is a more achievable objective for everyone at such varied competency and fluency levels. One minute can be a lot of time or a little time for some.
Well, good luck everyone. I will post reminders for readers to prepare in the months ahead. I am looking forward to next August.
